The Murder of Emmett Till
The murder of my dear friend Emmett Till was a very drastic disappointment for all of his friends, family and the rest of the people of Chicago. I have known Emmett since we were five and we grew up in the same neighborhood. He was always there for anyone and was far from a trouble maker in any kind of way. The fact that he was murdered is very devastating. Emmett's mother Mamnie raised him well and taught him respect toward other people. I really can't believe that this is happening to all of Emmett's friends and family here in Chicago. We all lost a very good friend with a hope of someday seeing him again and cherishing our friendship. He died a very horrible and unjust death; he didn't deserve it at all.
The memories of Emmett Till are unforgettable and unexplainable. He was a very positive person who everyone looked up to. I remember every Saturday afternoon when we would go over to my father's place in the Little Village Mexican neighborhood on 26th Street. I would introduce him to several of my bilingual Mexican friends. Although he didn't speak any Spanish, we all spoke in English for a show of respect towards him. Even though Emmett Till is gone, he will never be forgotten here in Chicago.
Emmett, you have passed away. All I could personally say is that I will see you again. Here I am thinking about the times we've had, the good, the bad, the sad. Lately it seems that no matter what I do, there's always something that reminds me of you. As this thing keeps floating around my head, I tend to get tense and I try to make sense out of all the situations I'm facing. There’s no erasing what happened to you! What’s done is done and I'm not tripping because I know you’re resting in the baby blue heavens above. Dear God, what did my friend do to die so young? What did he do to have his life taken away? Rest in peace, Emmett. We're missing you!
