Please access the link above for your project criteria. Paraphrasing example: Original quote: "The current definition acknowledges two modes and four types by which youth can be bullied or can bully others. The two modes of bullying include direct (e.g., bullying that occurs in the presence of a targeted youth) and indirect (e.g., bullying not directly communicated to a targeted youth such as spreading rumors). In addition to these two modes, the four types of bullying include broad categories of physical, verbal, relational (e.g., efforts to harm the reputation or relationships of the targeted youth), and damage to property." The current definition states that there are two modes and four types by which youth can be bullied. The two modes include direct and indirect. Also, the four types include categories of physical, verbal, damage to property, and relational.* *In this example, we have omitted some of the author's original words and shortened the passage, but have not put this information in our own words. Bullying is a pervasive problem that can be direct (in front of a targeted person) or indirect (by making fun of the individual with others). There are four main ways people are bullied: through physical violence/intimidation, verbally (threats or taunts), relational (by attempting to make the individual a target of others), and finally, by damaging their belongings. In this second example, we are expressing the same information as given in the quoted material, yet have put it in our own words. You cannot plagiarize and earn credit. Throughout The Catcher in the Rye, Holden's actions and behavior illustrate symptoms of psychological disorders. Many mental illnesses such as depression or PTSD often result due to the body's response to stress or trauma. For this project, your group will choose a specific mental illness and research its symptoms and treatment options. Please keep a Google Doc of the websites you use- we will use these to create your Works Cited page. PTSD bipolar disorder depression schizophrenia generalized anxiety disorder social anxiety disorder dissociative identity disorder I would like you to have a minimum of 13 slides total including your title slide and Works Cited page. Please make sure to include two video clips and 3 infographics in your presentation. Interviews with experts on your disorder/people coping with their illness would be great choices as well. Please make sure to cover the following: 1. What illness are you researching? (title slide) 2. What is the definition of your disorder? What might be physical/noticeable characteristics of this disorder? 3. What are potential risk factors that may lead to this illness– “causes” of the illness? Are there certain “types” of people who are prone to this illness; if so, why? 4. What are prevention suggestions and strategies pertaining to this illness? (Hint: look at risk factors/causes, can you prevent the disorder from progressing? etc.) 5. What are the common warning signs/symptoms that may lead you to believe someone may be suffering from this disorder? 6.How is this illness specifically treated (medication names, symptoms treated, etc.)? 7. What is the science behind this illness? What does the research say about the physiology or the psychology of this disorder – what’s going on inside the body to cause this? 8.How can someone who is suffering from this disorder get help? 9. List at least 5 statistics pertaining to this illness. (How many people this illness affects, teenage stats vs. adult stats, men vs. women, differences between races, etc.) 10. What are common myths and the actual facts pertaining to this disorder? 11. List three or more specific resources that could help in dealing with this disorder (National resources such as organizations, hotlines, websites, etc., as well as community resources such as local support groups, organizations, medical personnel, etc.) You must type a one page essay to include on a slide within your presentation. Your essay must discuss Holden's symptoms of mental illness & three quotes from the book as evidence supporting your point. https://www.nami.org/Learn-More/Mental-Health-Conditions https://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/mentaldisorders.html Original quote:

AOW response example- We reach to our phones when feeling anxious or bored because we have become dependent on them. At the first spark of being nervous, anxious, or bored, we go for the closest distraction, which is usually our phones. According to the author, a smartphone can affect a person’s ability to complete tasks. For example, as stated in the article, “if a phone is out of sight in a bag, even on silent or off, the presence will reduce someone’s memory and problem solving skills." With that being said, our phones are controlling the way we are becoming. Personally, I don’t find myself dependent on my phone. I didn’t get my first phone until I was able to pay for it on my own, so with all honesty, I haven’t had phones for all that long. Also I work nearly everyday and while at work, people are paid for working, not for sitting on their phones. I only use my phone for pictures, reading, and communicating with people. I feel like I don’t use my phone as much as other people and I feel like I could live without mine. Phones are distractions in schools, workplaces, and just at home. From reading the article, I learned that people in schools tend to do better on tests when their phones aren’t in the same room. For instance, “In both experiments, students who left their phones outside the room, seemed to do best on the test.” Students did better without their phones being near them as a distraction and focused on the skills better. Phones and users can contribute to bullying, which impacts kids and teenagers every day. Phones play as a distraction and are heavily impacting our lives.
