Please refer to Vocabulary.com for help with your assignment. For your mini-projects, I would like you to choose a character from the book and create an acrostic poem using his or her full name. For example, if you choose Janie, you would use Janie Crawford for the years she was unmarried, Janie Killicks (for when she was married to Logan) or Janie Starks during the years she was married to Joe.
You may create either a typed acrostic poem, or an artistic representation. Do not use simply one word per line. This assignment will count as a project grade; please do your best. Mini-projects:
I would like you to choose a character from the book to focus on for a journal entry or letter- an SS officer, Moshe the Beadle, Tzipora, Madame Schacter, Cousin Stein, Sarah (Elie's mother). By choosing a character we know less about, I would like you to imagine his/her experiences in the concentration camps. What were his/her fears? Who would he/she have written to if the opportunity arose? Topics you can focus on may include: escape plots, warnings to others, how he/she passes the time, messages he/she would like relayed to others etc. 1 page typed (12 pt. font). Choice #1-
Choose one character from Of Mice and Men & create a collage using Google Drawings. I'd like you to pick quotes that represent that individual's personality, strengths, and weaknesses. You will need a minimum of three quotes from the book (12 quotes total). Each picture quote that you choose must include a quote, not simply a character's name, or the title of the book. http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/topics.html https://www.goodreads.com/quotes On your second "slide," I would like you to explain why you chose your quotes (2 paragraphs). How does each quote illustrate the character's personality, values, and goals in life? To access Google Drawings, please go to Google Drive>New>More>Google Drawings. collage portion= 50% of this project grade 2 paragraphs= 50% of this project grade Choice #2- You may type a one page (12 pt. font) letter or diary entry from the viewpoint of Curley's wife or Aunt Clara in order to provide backstory information that is missing from the book. Perhaps Curley's wife might reflect on why she married him, or we could get a glimpse into her younger life. You could also show the relationship between Aunt Clara and George to help explain why George is committed to help care for Lennie. If you'd prefer, you could also write a diary entry through Candy's eyes, as we do not know a great deal about him as a character.
